Add a hero image or thumbnail

Last updated: September 30, 2026

Hero and thumbnail image fields appear in the builder's Brand assets section only when your pass's layout uses one - a hero (wide banner) for event-ticket-style layouts, a thumbnail for membership-style layouts.

Separate images for Apple and Google

The hero layout has two fields: Apple Hero Image (a wide 3:1 banner) and Google Hero Image (a wide 2:1 banner). Uploading either opens a crop frame in the right shape, so you can frame each one for its wallet and don't need to prepare the files yourself.

Thumbnail

The thumbnail layout has an Apple Thumbnail (square). Google Wallet has no thumbnail slot, so on Google that image is shown as the hero image instead.

Rectangle logo (Google only)

The hero layout also has a Rectangle Logo (about 16:5). On Google Wallet it appears top-left in place of the round logo and the logo text. Apple Wallet has no equivalent and ignores it.

No image yet

Passes render cleanly with no hero or thumbnail set - the layout just shows its text fields on the plain background color until you add one.
