What it costs

For 1,000 loyalty cards and one person on the account, PassKit’s rate card works out to about $73 a month: the $39.50 platform fee plus 750 cards at $0.045. Add Apple’s $99 a year for the developer account - about $980 for the year.

On WalletPassBuilder the same 1,000 cards are covered by the credits in the plan: $490 for the year on annual billing, or $49 a month. Updates and notifications don’t use credits.

At much larger volumes the picture changes: PassKit’s per-pass rate falls to fractions of a cent above 100,000 passes, while our credits fall to $40 per 1,000. Run both calculators with your own numbers.

PassKit’s prices are as published on its website in November 2026; check its current plans before you decide.

Where WalletPassBuilder is stronger

Frequently asked questions

Is WalletPassBuilder cheaper than PassKit?+

For most programmes, yes. 1,000 loyalty cards cost about $73 a month on PassKit (one team member, from its rate card) plus Apple’s $99 a year for the developer account it uses, against $49 a month or $490 a year on WalletPassBuilder, where Apple Wallet setup is included. At very high volumes, compare PassKit’s per-pass rates with our volume pricing for 50,000 passes and up.

Do I need an Apple developer account for PassKit?+

Yes, to issue live passes. PassKit’s help center says you join the Apple Developer Program ($99 a year) to create the pass certificate. On WalletPassBuilder, Apple Wallet setup is handled for you, and you can add your own Pass Type ID if you want passes under your own developer account.

Can I move from PassKit to WalletPassBuilder?+

Passes already on your customers’ phones get their updates from the platform that issued them, so moving platforms means issuing new passes and sending customers the new link. Most businesses do it with one email or text, and keep both running until the old passes expire.

Does WalletPassBuilder charge per team member?+

No. The plan has no per-user fees. PassKit’s platform fee rises with the number of team members who need access, from $39.50 a month for one to $249.50 for unlimited.
