PassKit alternatives: wallet pass platforms compared

PassKit is one of the best-known wallet pass platforms, but its per-pass, per-team-member pricing and the Apple developer account it uses send many businesses looking for something else. These are the main alternatives for Apple Wallet and Google Wallet passes, what each costs, and who each one suits.

Last updated November 5, 2026. Facts about Apple Wallet and Google Wallet were checked against Apple’s and Google’s own documentation, linked in the sources.

The short answer

Why people look for an alternative

None of these make PassKit a bad choice - for large programmes with developers, its tiered rates and SDKs are strong. They just mean a different tool often fits a smaller team better.

The alternatives

WalletPassBuilder

A no-code builder for Apple Wallet and Google Wallet passes - loyalty and stamp cards, memberships, event tickets, coupons, gift cards and ID cards - from one visual editor. One plan at $49 a month or $490 a year includes every feature and 1,000 pass credits, with no per-user fees, and updates and notifications never use credits. Apple Wallet setup is handled for you, and you can add your own Pass Type ID any time. It’s free to start with no credit card, and you can design your pass before you sign up.

Passcreator

A German platform with EU hosting, ISO 27001 certification and Samsung Wallet support as well as Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. It’s free for 5 saved passes, then priced per saved pass each month - about $90 a month for 1,000, excluding VAT. Like PassKit, it uses your own Apple developer account. Pass2U

A credit-based service: 3 credits to issue a pass, 10 for a punch card, and 3 for each update, with 8,000 credits for $50. A Monthly Premium plan ($39 or $79 a month per pass design) makes updates unlimited. It also has its own Pass2U Wallet app. Very cheap for passes that never change. Full comparison: WalletPassBuilder vs Pass2U.

PassNinja

A developer-focused API built around NFC passes that customers tap on a reader, with readers and on-premises licensing available. $21 a month per pass template plus $0.11 a month per active pass. Full comparison: WalletPassBuilder vs PassNinja.

PassEntry

A UK platform built around NFC passes, with its own reader app and integrations with payment terminals and tools such as Salesforce and Shopify. The Pilot plan is £199 a month (£167 billed annually) for one template and 500 passes; larger volumes need a Custom plan from £200 a month. Full comparison: WalletPassBuilder vs PassEntry.

Stamp-card apps

Tools like Loopy Loyalty and Boomerangme focus on digital stamp cards for cafés, salons and local shops. A good fit if a stamp card is all you’ll ever need; a general pass builder covers tickets, memberships and coupons too.

What 1,000 loyalty cards cost

Worked from each platform’s published prices for one pass design and one team member, with 1,000 loyalty cards issued at the start and kept for a year. US dollars except where marked £, excluding VAT.

PlatformFirst yearHow it adds up
WalletPassBuilder$490Annual plan with 1,000 pass credits; Apple Wallet setup included
Pass2UAbout $570Monthly Premium $39 × 12, plus $100 of credits to issue 1,000 punch cards
PassKitAbout $980$39.50 platform fee + 750 cards × $0.045, each month, plus $99 Apple developer account
PasscreatorAbout $1,180About $90 a month for 1,000 saved passes, plus $99 Apple developer account
PassNinjaAbout $1,570$21 template + 1,000 × $0.11, each month
PassEntryFrom £2,400Custom plan from £200 a month, as the £199 Pilot plan stops at 500 passes

At 25,000 passes or more the order changes: PassKit’s per-pass rate falls to fractions of a cent, and WalletPassBuilder’s credits fall to $40 per 1,000. For more volumes and the do-it-yourself route, see how much it costs to create Apple Wallet passes.

Switching from PassKit

An Apple Wallet or Google Wallet pass gets its updates from the platform that issued it, so existing passes can’t be moved. Switching works like this:

How to choose

If you…Look at
Want one price for every pass type, without developersWalletPassBuilder
Want thousands of passes from Google Sheets, WooCommerce or WordPressWalletPassBuilder
Run loyalty and take payments with SquareWalletPassBuilder with Square
Are an agency running passes for several clients, some in the EUWalletPassBuilder workspaces
Need an enterprise contract, volume pricing and invoiced billingWalletPassBuilder
Need Samsung Wallet or ISO 27001Passcreator
Send one-off passes that never changePass2U
Need NFC tap passes and readersPassNinja or PassEntry
Want to build everything on an API with your own developersPassKit, or building it yourself

Whichever you shortlist, make a test pass on both an iPhone and an Android phone, and price it at the number of passes and team members you really expect.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best alternative to PassKit?+

For most businesses - from a single shop to multi-store enterprises - and agencies, WalletPassBuilder: one flat plan at $49 a month or $490 a year with every feature, Apple Wallet setup handled for you, loyalty, Square, Google Sheets and WordPress built in, a workspace for each store, brand or client with US or EU data residency, and custom contracts for large programmes. Passcreator suits businesses that need Samsung Wallet or ISO 27001, and PassNinja or PassEntry suit NFC tap passes.

Is there a cheaper alternative to PassKit?+

Yes. For 1,000 loyalty cards kept for a year, PassKit costs about $980 including the $99 Apple developer account it uses, from its own rate card. WalletPassBuilder costs $490 on annual billing with Apple Wallet setup included, and Pass2U about $570. PassKit’s per-pass rates fall a long way at very high volumes, so compare with your own numbers.

Do PassKit alternatives need an Apple developer account?+

Some do. PassKit and Passcreator both use your own Apple Developer Program membership ($99 a year) to issue live passes. WalletPassBuilder handles Apple Wallet setup for you, with the option to add your own Pass Type ID, and PassNinja lets you start on its certificate.

Can I move my passes from PassKit to another platform?+

Passes already on customers’ phones keep getting their updates from the platform that issued them, so switching means issuing new passes on the new platform and sending customers the link - usually one email or text. Keep both running until the old passes expire.
