Can you use Apple Wallet on Android?

Got sent an “Add to Apple Wallet” link on an Android phone, or moving from an iPhone? Apple Wallet doesn’t run on Android, but almost everything it does has an Android equivalent. Here’s what to use instead, and how to handle an Apple Wallet pass on Android.

The short answer

No - Apple Wallet only runs on iPhone and Apple Watch, and there’s no Android version. On Android, use Google Wallet (or Samsung Wallet on a Galaxy phone). Most businesses that offer “Add to Apple Wallet” also offer “Add to Google Wallet”.

Someone sent you an Apple Wallet pass

Apple Wallet passes are .pkpass files, and Google Wallet can’t open them on its own. Try these in order:

Look for a Google Wallet button in the same email, text or web page.
Ask the business for the Google Wallet version.
Use a third-party app from Google Play that can open .pkpass files and show the barcode.
Make your own copy - in the US, Google Wallet can create a pass from a photo of the barcode. It won’t update if the business changes the original.

Switching from iPhone to Android

Your Apple Wallet passes don’t move to Android. Before you switch, make a list, then:

Payment cards: add them to Google Wallet again. Your bank may ask you to verify each one.
Tickets and boarding passes: open them again from the airline’s or organizer’s app or email and choose Google Wallet.
Loyalty and membership cards: get them again from each business, or ask for the Google Wallet version.
Car keys, IDs and transit cards: check each provider’s instructions; some need to be removed from the iPhone before they can be added on Android.

For businesses

In the US a large share of customers use Android, and in most other countries it’s the majority. If you only send .pkpass files, they get a file they can’t open. Issue each pass for both wallets, and share one link that opens the right one on each phone.

Is there an Apple Wallet app for Android?+

No. Apple Wallet is built into iPhone and Apple Watch, and Apple doesn’t make it for Android. On Android, use Google Wallet, or Samsung Wallet on a Galaxy phone.

No. Passes stay with your Apple account. Add your payment cards to Google Wallet again, and get your tickets, boarding passes and loyalty cards again from the business’s app, email or website, choosing Google Wallet.
