Automatic reminders: event start, expiry and location

Last updated: October 7, 2026

Besides the notifications you send yourself, a pass can remind people on its own. Turn these on in the builder under Settings → Notifications.

The reminders

Notify users at event start - set a Starting date. Apple shows a reminder around the event's start.

Notify users before pass expiry - set an Expiration date. People are reminded before the pass expires.

Notify users when near a location - add up to 10 addresses, plus the Message to show and a Distance. The pass appears on the lock screen when someone is nearby.

Notify users when near a beacon (Apple Wallet only) - for iBeacon hardware in your venue.

How Google Wallet differs

The event start and expiry reminders work on both wallets, but Google sends its own fixed reminder with its own wording - 1 day before the event starts, or 2 days before the pass expires - and only one of the two. "Near a location" also works on Google, but Google decides the distance and the text, and it depends on the person's phone: Google Wallet notifications and precise location must be turned on.

Time zone

Pick the time zone the dates are in - it starts as yours - so reminders land at the right local time. It also applies to Scheduled Pass Expiry in Advanced settings.
